Evan Carter and Jake Burger each finished a triple short of the cycle as the visiting Texas Rangers beat the Washington Nationals 4-2 on Sunday in the rubber game of their three-game series.

Carter hit a two-run homer in the second inning, doubled in the fourth and singled in the sixth before striking out in the eighth. Burger doubled in the second, flied out in the fourth, singled in the sixth and hit a solo homer in the eighth.

Jacob Webb (3-3) pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in the bullpen game for Texas. Robert Garcia worked the final 1 1/3 innings for his fourth save.

Alex Call homered for Washington, and Nathaniel Lowe had three hits.

Nationals starter Trevor Williams (3-7) gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Jacob Latz started the bullpen game for Texas and went 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out seven and walked two. He left the field with the trainer after walking Amed Rosario in the fourth.

The start of the game was delayed an hour and 40 minutes due to rain.

Leading off the second, Marcus Semien hit a hard grounder that took a bad hop and deflected off shortstop Nasim Nunez for a single. Carter homered to right center to make the score 2-0. Burger doubled to left center, but Williams retired the next two batters.

Call led off the fourth with a homer to left to make it 2-1. It was the second home run in three games for Call, who had none this season entering Friday. After Rosario’s walk, Jacob Webb came on to face Lowe, who singled Rosario to third. Rosario scored the tying run when Josh Bell hit into a fielder’s choice.

Josh Smith doubled in the Texas fifth, and Brad Lord replaced Williams on the mound. Sam Haggerty reached on an error by Lowe at first, and Smith went to third. After Corey Seager walked, Semien grounded out, with Smith scoring the go-ahead run.

Burger homered with one out in the eighth to make it 4-2.
