Paul Marie’s late second-half goal helped the San Jose Earthquakes earn a point with a 2-2 draw against the host Seattle Sounders on Wednesday night.

Marie tipped in a cross from Jeremy Ebobisse for his third of the season in the 89th minute to level the score 2-2.

Amahl Pellegrino also scored for the Earthquakes (5-21-3, 18 points), who avoided a third straight loss.

With the draw, San Jose took four of six points from the Sounders this season — the Earthquakes won the only other meeting between the two clubs 3-2 on March 23 in the Bay Area.

Jordan Morris recorded a first-half brace for the Sounders (13-9-8, 47 points) who are unbeaten in three and have points in four of five MLS matches.

The draw extends Seattle’s winless run against San Jose to six matches. The Sounders’ last win over the Earthquakes came in September 2021, a 3-1 road win.

On Wednesday, Seattle controlled the first-half possession and led 2-1 on a pair of goals from Morris.

Pellegrino opened the scoring for San Jose in the 15th minute, taking a cross from Cristian Espinoza and tipping it past keeper Stefan Frei and into the open net for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Morris responded for Seattle five minutes later, putting a bouncing loose ball past keeper Daniel Britto with a right-footed strike for his 12th of the campaign.

The Sounders’ forward gave Seattle a 2-1 lead in the 39th minute, getting a handle on a Paul Rothrock cross and putting his strike past Britto. The goal gives the Seattle native 13 on the season — setting a new single-season career high.

Up next, the Earthquakes return home to host St. Louis on Saturday, while Seattle entertains the Houston Dynamo on Sept. 28.
